Derek Thornley, the founder and principal consultant, has more than 40 years experience in IT.  He has worked in companies all over the world and in many industry sectors advising on implementing and improving IT service management, project estimating & planning and agile approaches to project delivery.

Derek is a skilled and experienced facilitator, and has a reputation for being able to communicate clearly with stakeholders at all levels.  He has a pragmatic approach to his work and is able to identify needs and to deliver effective solutions with the minimum of disruption.

Whilst having a largely technical background, he firmly believes that people, not technology, have the most important role to play in the provision of high-quality services and his aim is always to develop the knowledge and skills of his customer's staff.

Starting in main-frame computer operations in the 1960's, Derek's career has included IT operations, systems design, project management and IT management up to very senior levels.  He has worked for government and for major commercial organisations in the UK and abroad and has also worked as a consultant for well known UK IT Service Providers.  In the latter roles, he utilised and developed his skills and experience working in many of the world's best-known companies in the USA and Europe.

                                                                                   

He gained the ITIL® Manager's Certificate in 1992 and has kept up-to-date with changes in the framework since.  He now holds the version 3 Expert qualification and has also passed all of the version 3 Intermediate examinations.  


                                    

Derek is accredited by the APMG, the ISEB and by Exin to deliver training for all current ITIL® qualifications.  He holds the ISEB Certificate in IS Consultancy skills and has also been accredited as a practioner and trainer in the Dynamic Systems Development Method.
